Chlorothalonils are completely preventive/protective and must be applied before a rust infection. They are not absorbed by the plant.

Strobilurins are somewhat systemic with a single mode of action and provide protection with limited curative activity. These will be restricted to one application per season unless combined with another active ingredient.

Triazoles also have both protective and systemic activity and a single mode of action, but seem to have slightly greater curative ability than the strobilurins.
